Happy Calvin and Hobbes day! The first Calvin and Hobbes comic strip was published 25 years ago today, and despite the fact that the last strip appeared in December 1995 the appeal of the adventures of a mischievous six year old boy and his stuffed-but-very-real tiger companion endures. I’ve loved them for such a long time – I used to read the collections as light relief at university – that picking a strip to put in this post could have taken all day. In the end I went for the one above because it’s just so joyous, it always makes me smile. Bill Watterson is a true genius. As much as I’d love a Calvin and Hobbes t-shirt, or mug, or socks, I’m really glad that Bill Watterson decided not to allow merchandising – it means that his creations are still precious.
